Day 28 – On Mackinac Island

First question, Mackinaw or Mackinac. The Native Americans first named it Mitchimakinak. The French came along and in the style of the French Language named it (?), Mackinac. After the war of 1812, the British conquered the island and the area and renamed it Mackinaw according to their thoughts about how it should be pronounced. Of course, this is after it was stolen from the Native Americans.

in between the French and the British (I think), the US, acquired the Island through the Treaty of Paris (1783).

Now it’s all about fudge!

More to come.
