Day 45 – Muskegon to Grand Haven

We took a short trip from Muskegon to Grand Haven. Roughly 2 hours. Grand Haven came highly recommended. So we thought we would give it a try. Grand Haven has a major Coast Guard presence and you can see it in their station and the waterfront. See the pictures below. Also they have a very nice waterfront area with restaurants, ice cream and shops. We met a nice couple in the boat next to us. So it goes on the friendly harbor list. Jeanne and I went to Kirby’s for lunch and 2 Ultimate Bloody Marys which are pictured below. Then went back and cleaned the boat. It’s a nice feeling when the boat is clean. Got a pizza. Yep delivered to the marina.

Grand Haven is famous for their musical water light show and it did not disappoint. Large speakers, a lot of lights and water. I included some pictures below.

We discovered a tricky part about Grand Haven which is the surge. So depending on the wind there are waves coming down the river. Seems like winds are from the Southwest or West it cause a surge. So we were woken up around 5:00 to the boat really rocking back and forth. We thought it was the fisherman going out. When I got up to look there were no boats, just small rollers coming down the river. Uncomfortable. So we got it together and left around 9:30.

Them Bloody Mary’s alone are worth the trip ! Fine example of “Michigan breakfast sticks”, they cover all the food groups and are a staple in them Northwoods taverns. js P.S. TO JEANNE ONLY ! ! PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTAL ! ! You are only drinking Bloody Mary’s 2 at a time after ALL this boat time w/ Steve ? ? You a saint ! !

I agree. Those Bloody Mary’s are a meal! Our favorite place to get them is in the Northwoods of Wisconsin at a bar/restaurant called The Shamrock. It’s been on the main drag (2 blocks long)of Lake Tomahawk since the beginning of time…along with 4 other bars, a gift shop, the hardware store, a gas station and the mini-post office, a tiny welcome center, the laundromat and a corner drive in burger joint. Not to forget the famous (cover your ears vegans)the Lake Tomahawk Meat Market. 😍🥰
    Love those kinda towns.
